There is a photo of a water fall in Costa Rica that reads Experience Thirilling Adventures in Costa Rica During your next vacation. Mary Yost Travel.

Costa Rica is one of the destinations in the world where you can wander through a rainforest one minute and relax in your luxury resort room the next. This amazing vacation destination is the perfect place to relax, focus on wellness, indulge in delicious cuisine, and participate in personalized adventures. During your Costa Rica vacation, you can spend time in rainforests with the wildlife or on the soft sandy beaches. Plus, there are plenty of thrilling and private adventures in Costa Rica for you to choose from when you are trying to escape the hustle and bustle of life and enjoy your luxurious vacation. Today, I am going to share some of those adventures in Costa Rica, as well as a couple of other tips you must be aware of to enjoy your vacation.

Experience Costa Rica for your Next Amazing Vacation

Best Time for a Costa Rica Vacation

A Monkey on someone's arm in Costa Rica.

You can easily plan your luxury vacation in Costa Rica for any time of the year. However, if you are searching for the best time to visit Costa Rica, I recommend choosing a date between December and April.

Those months are the driest, so you won’t see as much of the tropical rainfall. The entire country will still be lush and green during this time though. So, you won’t miss out on the beauty of the area, as you are out exploring with your private tour guide.

Where to Stay During Your Amazing Vacation in Costa Rica

I highly recommend reserving a room at one of the five-star luxury resorts in Costa Rica. Some of those resorts are near the jungle, while others are close to the soft sandy beaches this area is known for. There are quite a few to choose from and I can share my personal favorites with you as I am planning your trip.

You may want to choose a luxury resort that offers one of the amazing spa retreats in Costa Rica. Or a resort that is close to one of the spa retreats. After all, you are going to want to be pampered with at least one of the massage or body treatments, as well as the holistic wellness therapies these spa retreats are known for.

Thrilling Adventures in Costa Rica to Add to Your Itinerary

There are so many things you can choose to do while you are on vacation in Costa Rica. However, I recommend you focus on the activities you can enjoy during private tours as much as possible. This will ensure you are truly getting the most personalized experiences in this gorgeous destination.

Zipline Through the Monteverde Cloud Forest Biological Preserve

Yes, you can walk along the trails within the Monteverde Cloud Forest Biological Preserve. However, if you truly want to see the beauty of this forest, head up above the trees during a ziplining adventure.

During your visit to this forest, you will have the chance to see howler monkeys, sloths, and other animals amongst the trees.

If ziplining doesn’t appeal to you, there is another option for soaring high above the trees in Costa Rica. Consider a hot air balloon ride to enjoy panoramic views, as you drift peacefully amongst the skyline.

Soak in the Warm Waters at Ecotermales Fortuna

You know you deserve to relax while on vacation. What better place to do that in Costa Rica than Ecotermales Fortuna?

The magnesium-rich water is heated by the Arenal Volcano. Soak in these warm waters to relieve pain, reduce inflammation, and pamper yourself.

There are cool pools nearby as well. You can use them to alternate between hot and cold therapy.

Your private driver can escort you here at any time during your stay. However, it is best to visit these warm waters after a hike through the jungle.

Explore Arenal Volcano National Park

Speaking of the Arenal Volcano, you must explore the park where the volcano is located. Yes, the main focus is the volcano, which rises more than five thousand feet towards the clouds. But there are so many other things to do at this park.

I recommend going for a horseback ride or doing a little river rafting to appreciate the beauty from a different perspective.

If you want to see more than one volcano while in Costa Rica, add Turrialba, Poas, and Irazu volcanoes to your itinerary.

Experience a Private Helicopter Tour

A private helicopter tour will allow you to take in all the breathtaking landscapes in Costa Rica. I can arrange for you to fly over the lush rainforests, volcanic formations, and sandy beaches to see the sights from a unique perspective.

Combining a helicopter tour with a few private tours on the ground will ensure you see, and experience, as much of Costa Rica as you can during your stay.

Go Snorkeling at Playa Chiquita

You will discover you can snorkel in numerous places in Costa Rica. However, one of the best places to snorkel near a reef is Playa Chiquita. I can arrange for a guide to take you out, so you don’t miss the best spots of the reef for spotting marine life.

The best part is the beach is usually not too crowded. So, it is the perfect place to spend time alone when you have finished snorkeling for the day.

Head Out on a Tour of a Coffee Farm

Do you love coffee? If you said yes, be prepared to drink some of the best coffee of your life while on vacation in Costa Rica!

When you’re not sipping on coffee, you may want to learn a little bit about the coffee-making process. I recommend taking a tour of a coffee farm to learn how the beans are grown, harvested, and then roasted.

If you are not a fan of coffee, you may prefer to take one of the chocolate farm tours in Costa Rica. These tours will have you learning how cacao is turned into some of the finest chocolate in the world.

Venture Over to Tortuguero National Park

You will need to plan if you want to have one of the most thrilling adventures in Costa Rica. Tortuguero National Park can only be reached via plane or boat. I will reserve your preferred mode of transportation, so you don’t miss the biodiversity of this area.

Once you arrive at the park, hop into a kayak to paddle along the canals. From your kayak, you will be able to see manatees, sea turtles, and speckled caimans.

This is only one of the luxury eco-adventures you can choose from for your adventures in Costa Rica. I can also arrange for white water rafting, waterfall rappelling, and so much more.

Indulge in a Sweet Copo

A sweet copo is a delicious drink in Costa Rica. Most of the time, you will see people drinking this while sitting on the beach. Copo is made with shaved ice, kola syrup, condensed milk, and powdered milk.

If ice cream and fruit is placed on top, the copo becomes the churchill. You will find the best churchill in the town of Puntarenas. However, don’t limit yourself to drinking one there. Try as many as you wish during your Costa Rica vacation.

Your private driver will know many of the places serving copo off the beaten path.

Step Off the Beaten Path to See Catarata Del Toro Waterfall

You may also want to venture off the beaten path to check out a waterfall or two. The Catarata del Toro waterfall happens to be one of the tallest waterfalls in Costa Rica. While you can see waterfalls without walking too far, this is not one of those waterfalls. You will need to walk a little ways down a path to see this waterfall.

The path will lead you from the visitor center to the Catarata del Toro waterfall. Along that trail, you will discover numerous viewpoints to check out the waterfall.

You must eventually climb down steep concrete steps to reach the falls. Take your time and don’t forget to stop to check out the views along the way.

Visit a Rescue Center or Animal Sanctuary

A sloth hanging from a tree in Costa Rica.

With all the wildlife there is in Costa Rica, it shouldn’t be surprising that they have rescue centers and animal sanctuaries for injured animals.

A few of the rescue centers and animal sanctuaries to consider visiting include:

  • Jaguar Rescue Center

  • Toucan Rescue Ranch

  • Aviarios del Caribe - sloth sanctuary

  • Alturas Wildlife Sanctuary

Stop in one to learn how they care and rehabilitate the wildlife before returning them to the wild.

If you desire a more personalized wildlife experience, I can arrange a luxury wildlife safari in one of the national parks or private reserves. A private guided tour will allow you to see more of the native wildlife up close. Plus, your expert naturalist will ensure you learn about everything you see during your tour.

Imagine watching baby sea turtles hatching on the beach. Or walking through the jungle at night to see creatures most people miss during their time in Costa Rica.

Walk to the Whale’s Tail

If you want to see something unique while on vacation in Costa Rica, walk to the Whale’s Tail. Two beaches combine to create what looks like a whale’s tail at Marino Ballena National Park.

I recommend visiting during low tide, so you can walk to the tail during your visit. Oh, and the sunsets are spectacular in this area. Keep that in mind if you happen to be at this park later in the day.

Visit the Cemetery on Cabuya Island

Cabuya Island is also called Cemetery Island. You can only reach this cemetery twice a day at low tide. When low tide arrives, walk fifteen minutes to the island. At the entryway, there is a wooden path that leads to the gravestones.

It is believed this island is haunted by the ghosts of the people who are buried there. Don’t stay past low tide or you may find out for sure, since you will be stuck on the island until the tide goes down again.

These are some of the thrilling, personalized, and private adventures in Costa Rica, but there are many others you can add to your vacation itinerary.
